Introduction

These are a collection of photos from the Al Gharbia Region (Western Region) of Abu Dhabi. For work and pleasure, I've made numerous trips into the Al Gharbia Region, to see the sand dunes, to go jogging in Mirfa, to spend some time in Delma, or for work - part of the urban and regional planning efforts of the UPC.

Ruwais

Ar Ruwais was planned by a Houston firm in 1981 for a three-stage plan. It is a work-town for Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) employees with villas and apartments, schools, hospitals, a rec center, etc. It is probably the best planned community so far, with walkable, planned neighborhoods. Go Houston, haha. I really felt comfortable in Ruwais and there were amazing sight-lines, including some long views to the two mosques. Makes for some great sunset pictures.
