Introduction

These are a collection of photos from the Al Gharbia Region (Western Region) of Abu Dhabi. For work and pleasure, I've made numerous trips into the Al Gharbia Region, to see the sand dunes, to go jogging in Mirfa, to spend some time in Delma, or for work - part of the urban and regional planning efforts of the UPC.

Liwa

The Liwa Oasis is like a stretch of European hamlets high up on the dune tops, overlooking agriculture below. The contrast in colors here would delight any artist. The oasis borders the 'Rub al Khali' desert, which literally translated means 'Empty Quarter'. This is a giant desert spreading into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Everytime I go to the Moreeb Dune (largest Dune), I imagine Lawrence and Faisal coming over these sand dunes. God, I love deserts.
